Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez spoke to the media after the 1-0 defeat to Cadiz on Monday and did not hide his disappointment at the result.
“We are angry, the players first, because we missed a golden chance to separate ourselves from those in the fight for the Champions League places and also to [keep] fighting for LaLiga, which we’ve practically said goodbye to now,” he said.
“We have to play with more determination. This is Barça and we have to do more. The rivals sit deep and that requires decisions that are harder to take. We have to get in the box more. We have trained it.
“It was about having faith and the team lacked that and I am the first to blame. We have a lot to play for, a place in the Champions League is on the line, and that’s why I am angry. The team had to show more.”
He added: “Everything worries me. We have to be humble because we haven’t done anything. There’s been a change of system and model but we have to improve to get into the Champions League. We have to play with more impetus.
“We cannot concede clear chances and we have to take ours. It’s important to score the first goal. We are playing for a lot.
“No creates what Dembele takes but we have to take advantage of that. But we are not in a bad situation. We have improved, but we have to have more desire. We haven’t been able to fight for the title, but we have to keep betting on this model and improving.
“We cannot lose at home to Cadiz. Now to work hard, we have seven finals left, starting with Real Sociedad on Thursday, and we have to play them as such.”
