Chelsea’s 2021/22 season kicks off in less than a month with a meeting with Villarreal in the UEFA Super Cup.
Then it’s on to Premier League matters for Thomas Tuchel’s side with games against Crystal Palace, Arsenal and Liverpool before the first international break of the new campaign.
But before competitive action returns, a number of Chelsea players have been in training this week ahead of the upcoming pre-season fixture against Peterborough United on Saturday.
The match is likely to be played at the Cobham training ground so will remain behind closed doors, but Tuchel will get the chance to experiment with his squad.
One player who could feature is Charly Musonda who has not played consecutive games for four years following a series of injuries, the most recent one a serious knee problem.
He was back at Cobham this week to be put through his paces alongside the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi, Lewis Baker, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Conor Gallagher.
And there was a brilliant moment involving Musonda and Tammy Abraham.
As spotted in Chelsea’s ‘Exclusive Access’ training video uploaded to the club’s YouTube page, at around the 0.02-minute mark, Abraham avoids being soaked by the water sprinkler by turning it away.
Perhaps the funniest thing about the incident is the fact that Abraham didn’t know who had pranked him as he asked “who did that?”
It remains to be seen how many more Chelsea training sessions Abraham will be a part of as there are rumours linking him with an exit during the summer transfer window.
According to the Mirror, director Marina Granovskaia and boss Tuchel are lining up a ‘monster bid’ to lure Erling Haaland to Stamford Bridge that includes Abraham.
