Tuchel press conference: Chelsea boss on Liverpool clash, Lukaku, injury news and more

Live updates as Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel speaks at a press conference ahead of this weekend’s Carabao Cup final against Liverpool.

Chelsea face Liverpool at Wembley on Sunday in the Carabao Cup final and Blues boss Thomas Tuchel is due to speak at a press conference at around 1.30pm today. We’ll have live updates.

Tuchel has arrived.

James, Mount, Ziyech, Kovacic and Pulisic have all trained, which is “brilliant news”, says Tuchel, who says they are all available.

Asked about Lukaku, Tuchel says the focus on the striker is “huge” but he accepts the pressure of playing for Chelsea, the team comes first, and there are “no hard feelings” over the decision to leave him out against Lille.

Tuchel says he was unaware of Italian media reports linking Lukaku with a possible return to Inter Milan. He adds that there is “absolutely no need to be distracted” and that the focus must be on results.

Tuchel says it’s right that the Champions League final has been moved from St Petersburg in light of the Russia-Ukraine situation.

Tuchel says he will make a late decision on whether Mendy or Kepa play in goal for Chelsea at Wembley.

He adds it will be “the very last decision after training” and adds that Kepa was “fantastic” when standing in for Mendy.

On the “sensitive” keeper situation, Tuchel says Kepa “absolutely deserves” to play at Wembley but that the manager “cannot be sentimental” in his decision-making.

Tuchel says it’s a “pleasure” to come up against Jugen Klopp and Liverpool in a cup final.

Tuchel suggests Liverpool are favourites and says matches against them have been tight.

Tuchel says James looked “brilliant” in the past two training sessions but that it would be a “huge step” to start with him at Wembley, although it’s ‘tempting’ to. He will decide later.

Tuchel says Havertz has done enough to show he can lead the attack for Chelsea.

And that’s it from Thomas Tuchel. Thanks for joining us.
