Thierry Henry warns Chelsea and Marina Granovskaia against transfer mistake

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has explained why Chelsea may be making a mistake by allowing Olivier Giroud to leave the club this summer.

Giroud is out of contract at Stamford Bridge this summer after three successful years at the club which have seen him win a Champions League, a Europa League and two FA Cups.

The veteran striker joined Chelsea for a bargain £15million from Arsenal, and he has proved to be a smart signing for the Blues, though the Frenchman is likely to leave the club this summer.

The 34-year-old has struggled for game time under Thomas Tuchel, and after joining up with France for Euro 2020, he will be searching for a new opportunity at club level.

Though Gunners legend Henry has warned why Giroud still very much has a place at any top club, labeling him a ‘dying’ breed.

“In the past three or four years it seems like he’s struggling for starts with his team at club level, but whenever he plays – whether it’s at club level or in the national team – he often delivers,” he told Goal.

“Olivier is the type of striker that is kind of dying right now.

“The old school, holding the ball up, passing the ball to the winger, getting into the box and breaking your neck to score with a header.

“But what I like is how he puts people in a game. He’s very good, he will give the assist sometimes when you link up with him on a one-two.”

Giroud heads to this summer’s Euro 2020 just seven goals behind Henry, who holds the record as the France national team’s all-time top scorer.

Though, Henry hopes Giroud can surpass the record, adding: “I think it’s great for Didier Deschamps to have a striker like Olivier and if he goes on to beat the record, amazing.”
