Roman Abramovich makes Chelsea transfer decision as Thomas Tuchel target becomes clear

Chelsea are once again set to splash out to improve their squad this summer.

That’s according to recent reports, which claim Roman Abramovich is once again preparing to make a big investment having splashed out more than £250million last summer to overhaul the squad.

Chelsea spent heavily last summer as they signed the likes of Timo Werner, Hakim ZIyech, Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz and others, but the spending did not have an immediate impact.

It took until Thomas Tuchel took over from Frank Lampard in January to see the full potential of this Chelsea side, the Blues now in the top four and the Champions League final.

But encouraged by how the money is paying off in Europe and with hope of a title challenge ahead of next weekend, Abramovich appears to be preparing another injection of cash, with Tuchel setting a clear target to overhaul champions Manchester City.

According to The Sun, Abramovich and the board are very impressed with the work Tuchel has done and are preparing a £150million war chest in preparation for next season.

Just how that will be spent remains to be seen, but Chelsea are in for a striker and it’s likely it could cost them around £100million to get one.

Inter Milan and former Blues frontman Romelu Lukaku has been linked, believed to be worth around £100million, while Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland has also been linked, though that could cost Tuchel and Marina Granovskaia their full budget.

The Blues may also look to sign a centre-back given Fikayo Tomori is likely to make his move to AC Milan permanent, while Thiago Silva, if he does sign a contract extension, is now 36 years of age.

Chelsea are well stocked in other areas, allowing them to dedicate much of their budget this summer on that new striker, be it Lukaku, Haaland or someone else.
