Report: Tuchel has discussed signing player Terry called 'unbelievable' with Chelsea's staff

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has reportedly discussed the possibility of signing West Ham and England star Declan Rice.

According to the Athletic, Blues manager Tuchel has had conversations with his members of his staff about the 22-year-old.

Tuchel reportedly admires the midfielder. However, not everyone at the club is convinced about spending a fortune to bring back a player released by Chelsea aged 14.

The report says West Ham value him at €110million (£95million) and that he’s not for sale, amid interest from Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City.

Rice, who is part of England’s squad at Euro 2020, will surely play a key role for his country this summer.

The defensive midfielder is highly-rated, including by ex-Chelsea captain and Blues legend John Terry.

Terry called him “unbelievable” in an Instagram post last year.

Declan Rice return to Chelsea looks meant to be

For Chelsea, it looks like they’ve got a massive job on their hands if they want Rice back at Stamford Bridge.

Unfortunately, West Ham qualifying for Europe ahead of the new season works in their favour. But further down the line surely he’ll move on to a bigger club competing in the biggest competitions.

Chelsea’s immediate focus this summer shouldn’t be in midfield. Instead, the Champions League holders need a centre-forward to really help elevate them even further.

Rice looks like he could be a long-term option in the Blues midfield, and he’s only getting better.

It may be worth going all out on a striker this window before targeting the West Ham man in the next.
