Speaking on The Done Deal Show, Ben Jacobs has been discussing Arsenal and Gabriel Martinelli’s future at the club.
Mikel Arteta confirmed this week that the Gunners were in talks about extending the Brazilian winger’s contract, but at the same time, it has been reported that Chelsea are keen on the attacker.
So, is there a chance that Martinelli snubs a new Arsenal contract and signs for Chelsea? Well, according to Jacobs the 21-year-old could have his head turned if some offers come in.
MARTINELLI MIGHT GO
Jacobs discussed Martinelli’s stance and what could happen.
“There’s no panic for Arsenal, Saka is going nowhere, but the interesting one is Martinelli because nobody other than De Bruyne this season has created more chances. That is a real indicator of his involvement and him being at his peak. The football geeks like this metric and this is why he’s on the radar of a number of clubs, Chelsea are one of them, and Arsenal have work to do,” Jacobs said.
“There is a 100 per cent chance it is definite that Saka will stay at Arsenal and will sign a new deal, it’s highly likely that Saliba will find a way to get a deal done, and I would say that Martinelli’s head might be turned by one or two offers that come in.”
Martinelli leaving Arsenal at this juncture may well derail what Mikel Arteta is currently building at the Emirates.
Arsenal have a crop of young players that they will want to challenge for a major trophy in the coming years, but if Martinelli leaves, that could be the beginning of an exodus in north London.
Bukayo Saka is wanted by Manchester City and Barcelona have had an eye on William Saliba lately, and if those two come calling and Martinelli has already left, they could be tempted into following him out of the door.
