‘Never getting that with Chelsea’: Paul Merson makes Tottenham Hotspur claim

Paul Merson said on Sky Sports News (12:50pm, September 11, 2021) that Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea are stronger in squad depth than Nuno’s Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Arsenal star has said that Tottenham were looking weak against Crystal Palace after missing a number of their important players.

Merson has said that that is not going to happen with Chelsea because they have a strong squad.

The Englishman said on Sky Sports News (12:50pm, September 11, 2021): “You have got Tottenham there with three games in, and we are already saying they are very weak, it’s very light, their bench. We are never getting that with Chelsea this season.”

DOES PAUL MERSON HAVE A POINT?

Chelsea have one of the strongest squads in the Premier League and are genuine contenders for the title this season.

Against Aston Villa this past weekend, Tuchel had Jorginho, Timo Werner, Mason Mount, Ben Chilwell and Cesar Azpilicueta on the bench.

N’Golo Kante and Christian Pulisic were injured, and Reece James was suspended.

Tottenham suffered a heavy defeat to Palace at the weekend.

Head coach Nuno was without Cristiano Romero, Giovani Lo Celso, Davinson Sanchez, Son Heung-Min and Steven Bergwijn.

Chelsea have a very strong academy and have invested in their squad heavily over the years.

It is natural that they have a bigger squad and have more depth than Spurs.

Chelsea also have a owner who has never shied away from making big signings, like he did with Romelu Lukaku this summer.
