People are obsessed with Marina Granovskaia in a way that they just aren’t with other executives in football (Ed Woodward aside).
Maybe it’s because she’s a woman, maybe it’s because the man she represents is so totally silent, but whatever the reason there’s always excited whispers about the Chelsea managing director.
A profile of her entitled “Enigma: Granovskaia” is the cover story of L’Equipe this week, pretty impressive given there’s not much of a connection to French football beyond the fact that Chelsea play Lille tomorrow.
They note that she likes to use Whatsapp to conduct transfer dealings (just like everyone else), and that she’s had fiery disputes with super agent Mino Raiola (just like everyone else).
Her business prowess and tough negotiating skills are mentioned of course, as is her incredible commitment as she works “late hours” on behalf of the club.
Honestly, would you expect anything else from the effective head of a billion dollar enterprise like Chelsea?
