'I'm good enough to do that': Chelsea youngster tells Tuchel where he wants to play this season

Conor Gallagher explained he could feature anywhere in midfield as he tries to break into Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea team.

Speaking to the club website, Gallagher outlined how he viewed himself as a multi-dimensional midfielder.

The 21-year-old is back in pre-season training at Cobham following his loan spell with West Bromwich Albion.

He, like so many other returning stars, are aiming to tantalise Tuchel and hopefully stick around for the upcoming campaign.

Gallagher getting to grips

Being versatile will certainly put a player in a sturdy situation for selection, such is the ever-changing nature of the sport.

And Gallagher felt he had that skill right up his sleeve when asked about his strongest position.

“I think of myself as an all-round midfielder,” he said.

“I like to play box to box and just be busy on the pitch, try to create chances and do my defensive work as well.

“I feel like I can play anywhere in midfield, whether it’s deeper or further forward. I’m happy to do whatever and I’m good enough to do that.”

Modesty is also a good commodity and Gallagher admitted he still had plenty of room for development.

“I know defensive intelligence is something that I can improve on so I’ve been working on that last season and now during pre-season,” continued the England Under-21 international.

“I’ve been told I need to get better at that so I’m focusing on it.”

Chelsea royal rumble

Places within Tuchel’s midfield are now being subjected to heavy competition.

Alongside Gallagher, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ross Barkley, Danny Drinkwater, and Trevoh Chalobah are all fighting for a similar spot.

This isn’t even mentioning the regulars in N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic.

Billy Gilmour’s loan move to Norwich City does provide some hope for those on the fringes.

Plenty of Chelsea supporters would love Gallagher to be gifted the opportunity.

It’s really down to him to grab that chance and not let go.
