BirminghamLive brings you the latest Aston Villa news as reported transfer target Conor Gallagher impresses new Chelsea boss Graham Potter.
Reported Aston Villa transfer target Conor Gallagher has impressed new Chelsea boss Graham Potter in the short amount of time they have been working together at Cobham.
Gallagher returned to Selhurst Park at the weekend for the first time since leaving the club after a successful loan spell under Patrick Vieira. He won the game for the Chelsea with a sublime strike from distance that handed Potter his first Premier League win as the new Blues boss.
Potter left Brighton to become the Chelsea manager and succeed Thomas Tuchel who was sacked last month. And the 45-year-old has made his feelings about Gallagher clear after the first month working with the midfielder.
I really like Conor,” Potter said. “He’s a fantastic kid and he’s desperate to do well, to play for this club, to be successful at Chelsea. I hope it’s just the start of a very successful Chelsea career for Conor Gallagher.”
Villa made an enquiry for Gallagher before deadline at the start of last month, according to talkSPORT. Though, a move never materialised and Gallagher hopes to continue catching the eye under Potter at Stamford Bridge.
“He said I’ve got a really important role and I need to keep working hard, remembering who I am and what I am best at, and when given the chance to be as effective as I can be,” Gallagher told the Evening Standard.
“I just need to keep impressing the manager. There’s a lot of top players in the Chelsea squad so it’s not going to be easy to get the game time I want. But I’m going to do my best to show that I’m ready and I want to be as effective as I can when given the opportunity.”
