Fans hijack Chelsea's post of Stamford Bridge's new look with Erling Haaland pleas

Chelsea are leading the race to sign Erling Haaland this summer despite the stance of Borussia Dortmund – and their status as champions of Europe might just help their cause.

As the club unveiled a new decal on the side of Stamford Bridge celebrating their recent triumph, followers on Twitter have their minds locked in on the Norwegian striker.

The celebratory message reads: “Home of the champions. European Champions League winners 2021.” And comes after Kai Havertz scored the only goal against Manchester City in Porto.

But it goes up just days after the interest in Haaland was detailed, with Dortmund always willing to listen to huge offers for the young talent that they help thrive.

One fan wrote: “Announce Haaland.” Alongside a mocked up picture of him in a Chelsea shirt.

Another tagging the man himself in writing: MAKE IT HAPPEN PLEASE @ErlingHaaland.”

A third said: “But announce Haaland… I believe I speak for all. Give us new signings we want to keep the trophy room occupied.”

With a fourth adding the updated look to the ground: “Should say ‘Welcome Haaland’ too.”

The Daily Mail have reported Chelsea are yet to learn whether Dortmund consider Tammy Abraham a suitable candidate for a part-exchange – which might be required should Haaland leave.

With Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke telling BBC Sport in April that he was tired of speculation.

“I do get tired of it,” Watzke told BBC Sport.

“Last summer, everybody in England, everybody in Europe, every journalist told the public ‘Jadon Sancho will play for Manchester United or wherever’. But he is still playing for Borussia Dortmund.

“Now everybody writes ‘Erling Haaland will next season play for Real Madrid or for Barcelona, or for this or this’.”

Tuchel said of Haaland earlier that month: “He’s a Borussia Dortmund player, and of course, there’s big news around him and his agent. And it seems like they are creating a race for the player.

“But still everybody needs to accept, and I will fully accept, that he is a Borussia Dortmund player.

“A very promising player of course, but with respect to the situation he’s not in our squad, he’s not in our club so there’s no comment on anything else regarding him.”
