Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to reveal that Paris Saint-Germain have tied Liverpool target Ismael Gharbi down to a new contract.
Well, back in March, it was said that Liverpool were planning to raid PSG for the 18-year-old sensation, whose contract was set to expire at the end of June.
The Reds – along with Chelsea – were monitoring the situation, as Goal claimed that Gharbi wanted assurances over playing time before committing himself to the French giants.
Clearly, the teenager has now received the assurance he was looking for, as he pens a three-year contract to stay at the Parc des Princes.
Gharbi made his Ligue 1 debut last season, playing one minute of a 2-2 draw against Troyes, but the Parisians clearly have very high hopes for the Paris-born sensation.
The attacking midfielder was even described as a “crack” by Mauricio Pochettino – the French term for an undeniable young talent.
In total, Gharbi made four first-team appearances for PSG last season, and with a new contract now signed, he looks set to have a very bright future in the French capital.
In our view, this isn’t over just yet for Liverpool.
PSG aren’t exactly known for giving young academy prospects a chance, as they tend to splash millions on the biggest names across Europe.
It has already seen them lose gems such as Kingsley Coman and Moussa Diaby in the past – the latter of whom is now wanted by Newcastle in a deal potentially costing £60m.
Clearly, there are talented prospects who PSG have not recognised in the past, despite having them right under their nose.
In that respect, if PSG fail to give Gharbi the playing time he wants across the next three years, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Jürgen Klopp get involved.
As seen in the signings of Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho, the German isn’t afraid to bring a youngster to Anfield if he thinks they’re good enough, so be sure to keep an eye on this situation.
