Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has organised a behind-closed-doors game in preparation for his side’s game against Aston Villa.
Villa travel to Stamford Bridge to play the Blues next Saturday (5.30pm).
Chelsea have had a busy start to the season after a late ending to the previous campaign because of their involvement in the Champions League final, which they won 1-0 beating Manchester City.
They competed in the Super Cup game earlier this season, in which midfielder N’Golo Kante injured his ankle while warming up.
He left France’s squad for their World Cup qualifiers earlier this week while Hakim Ziyech injured his shoulder in that game, but he is back fit.
Football.London, BirminghamLive’s sister title in the capital, reports that Tuchel has set up a game at Chelsea’s Cobham training base between players who are not on international duty and the club’s Under-23s.
Players like new signing Saul Niguez – who joined from Atletico Madrid on transfer deadline day – Kepa Arrizabalaga, Ben Chilwell and Ziyech will have been involved as well Thiago Silva, who was denied the chance to represent Brazil because of the quarantine required on his return.
Kante is an injury worry for Chelsea, with the midfielder substituted from the Liverpool game on Saturday with a recurrence of the ankle injury from earlier this month.
“He is injured, he had to go out,” Tuchel said.
“He missed the Arsenal game because of pain in his ankle and a little bit of inflammation, nothing serious because he was back in training and, as you could see, he started today.
“In winning the ball in this situation, the opponent fell on his ankle, twisted it again. He immediately had the same pain as before the Arsenal game when he missed it. He was lacking the force to accelerate and we had to take him off.”
